Torontonians will celebrate the Civic Holiday on Monday, but not everybody will have the day off.
Civic Holiday or Simcoe Day as it is also known in Ontario, is celebrated each year on the first Monday of August.
However, it has not been defined as a statutory holiday and is not mentioned in the province’s Retail Business Holidays Act or the Employment Standards Act.
Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean it will be business as usual in the GTA. Here is a list of what is open and closed on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012.
- Government offices
- Post office
- Most major malls, some with reduced hours
- Most grocery stores, some with reduced hours
- Movie theatres
- Select LCBO stores
- Tourist attractions including CN Tower, ROM, the AGO and Canada’s Wonderland
The TTC will run on a holiday schedule, with a 6 a.m. start time on the subway lines. Trains and buses will arrive less frequently than they do during the week.
Remember to watch CP24 all day Monday for the latest weather updates and traffic conditions.
