A Tim Horton’s at a busy downtown intersection was evacuated after an excavator ruptured a two-inch gas pipeline Monday afternoon.

The machine struck the line around 12:35 p.m. in front of 252 College Street, near Spadina Avenue Toronto Fire Services said.

The restaurant was evacuated as a precaution while officials checked over the site.

No one was injured and no gas readings have been detected at the site, fire officials said.

However the leak is expected to take between eight and 10 hours to cap, police said.

The intersection has been closed to motorists for several weeks for TTC track replacement work, but it has remained open to pedestrian traffic.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the rupture was related to the TTC work.
