A couple is dead and their son has been charged with first-degree murder following a double homicide in Scarborough.

The bodies were found at a home on Huntsmill Blvd. in the Warden Avenue and McNicoll Avenue area shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday after a cousin of the victims called police from a payphone.

Late Sunday, police identified the victims as a 58-year-old man and his 51-year old wife. They said the couple’s 26-year-old son has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

“Suffice it to say this is a family situation,” said Det. Sgt. Dean Burks of Toronto police. “The deceased are both the parents of the accused.”

Burks said he couldn’t comment on whether there was any kind of dispute leading up to the death of the couple. He also wouldn’t say when police believe the couple was killed.

Police said the husband had owned the home for the past eight years, splitting time between Toronto and time spent overseas.

Several people also rented rooms in the house, police said.

Earlier in the day, police cordoned off the home with yellow police tape. Officers canvassed the area to speak with neighbours, while a forensics team worked inside the home.

Neighbours told CP24 they were shocked to learn a murder had taken place at the home.

Police said there is no history of police contact at the residence.

The names of the victims have not been released, as police have yet to notify relatives who live abroad.

The cause of death is not yet being released.
