A former Ontario nurse accused of murdering eight elderly long-term care patients in Woodstock and London made a court appearance Thursday.

Accused serial killer Elizabeth Tracey Mae Wettlaufer, 49, appeared via video link in a Woodstock courtroom.

Wettlaufer was charged in September with eight counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of patients at the Caressant Care facility in Woodstock and the Meadow Park long-term care home in London.

The patients ranged in age from 75 to 96 and police allege that they died after being administered a drug.

The deaths occurred between 2007 and 2014.

Seven of the alleged victims were patients at the Woodstock facility and one was a patient at Meadow Park in London.

London-based lawyer William Brennan confirmed to CTV News Thursday that Ontario Provincial Police have been asked to examine two additional deaths at a long-term care facility where Wettlaufer worked.

Donald Martin came to the courthouse on Thursday in memory of his friend Maurice Granat, who died at the age of 84 in Crescent Care nursing home in Woodstock.

Martin told CTV News Toronto that Wettlaufer was the nurse tending to his friend the night he died.

He said Wettlaufer gave Maurice an injection and said it would "soothe him down," but 20 or 25 minutes later, Maurice was dead.

OPP investigators are urging anyone with information to contact them.

The case has been put over until January 6, 2017.
