About eight fire trucks and 35 firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a one-alarm blaze at a Mexican restaurant in the city’s west end on Thursday morning.

The fire broke out inside Dos Amigos on Bathurst Street near Dupont Street at around 3 a.m.

According to Toronto Fire, the blaze likely began as a small electrical fire on the ground floor before getting into the walls and spreading to an apartment above the restaurant.

Platoon Chief Dan Sells tells CP24 that there was a man inside the apartment at the time; however he was able to escape into an alley.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire within 15 minutes of arriving at the scene; however it did flare back up later in the morning.

Paramedics say they were called back to the building at 6 a.m. to assess a firefighter who hurt his shoulder in the blaze, however his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Bathurst Street was currently closed in both directions from Davenport Road to Dupont Street but all but one lane has since reopened.
