A cyclist is facing several charges after police say he allegedly sprayed dogs with an chemical irritant at an Oshawa dog park last month.

According to Durham Regional Police, an Oshawa man was walking two of his dogs in an off-leash park in the Harmony Valley Conservation Area on Aug. 20 when a man riding a mountain bike approached the dogs.

Police said the owner called for the cyclist to stop so he could hold his pets but the cyclist continued biking toward them.

The cyclist, police said, then sprayed the dogs with an “aerosol irritant.”

An altercation between the cyclist and the dog owner ensued and the cyclist left the area on his bike, police added.

The owner of the dogs was able to capture a photo of the cyclist and investigators said they were able to identify the cyclist based on the photo.

According to police, it was later discovered that the same cyclist allegedly sprayed other dogs in incidents on July 23 and Aug. 6.

A suspect has now been charged in connection with the case.

Michael Ramsey, a 55-year-old Clarington resident, has been charged with two counts of uttering threats, four counts of mischief under $5,000, and two counts of causing pain, suffering or injury to an animal.
