A 30-year-old Toronto man is facing charges after more than a dozen grenades were found inside a home in Scarborough’s Dorset Park neighbourhood Wednesday night.

According to police, officers were executing a search warrant for an unrelated matter at a home on Canlish Road, in the Birchmount Road and Lawrence Avenue East area, when the discovery was made.

During the search, 13 live military training grenades were discovered. A semi-automatic 9mm handgun, over-capacity magazines, and ammunition were also recovered, police said.

Residents in the area were evacuated from their homes last night as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Toronto resident Arthur Darocha faces 15 charges, including multiple counts of possession of an explosive substance, possession of a restricted firearm without a licence, and possession of a prohibited device.

He was scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
