Coun. Doug Ford says he was “misled” when he agreed to let a group home for developmentally disabled youth move into an Etobicoke neighbourhood.

During an interview with CP24 on Tuesday, Ford continued to defend controversial comments he made about how the home "ruined" a west-end neighbourhood.

“(The Griffin Centre) approached me and said they had some youth that needed a place to stay and there wasn’t going to be any issues and (there would be) proper supervision,” he said.

“That wasn’t the case. They have youth in there with violent tendencies.”

Ford claims the residents of the home have been found in the neighbourhood unsupervised, breaking into cars and climbing up the side of neighbouring homes.

“The neighbourhood is up in arms,” Ford said.

“I have a two and a half page rap sheet from the police.”

Ford pointed fingers at the McGuinty government, arguing that they made the wrong decision when they decided to close the Thistletown Regional Centre and put residents back into neighbourhoods.

“I do what any other councillor does and stands up for their community,” he said.
