Doug Ford will hold a news conference on Thursday morning amid mounting speculation over whether he will seek the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party.

The news conference will take place at Deco Labels & Tags in Etobicoke at 11 a.m.

Though Ford's intentions are not known, the outgoing city councillor did hint at a possible run in a one-on-one interview with CP24 earlier on Wednesday.

“There is a speech ready to go. I just can’t commit right at this time until tomorrow,” Ford said at the time.

While Ford said he is confident he would make Ontario a ‘better province,’ he said becoming leader of the party would be a “very big decision.”

“It is an eight to 12-year commitment,” he said.

Other candidates vying for the party’s top spot include MPPs Christine Elliot, Vic Fedeli and Lisa MacLeod, as well as federal Conservative MP Patrick Brown.

“I truly believe any of the other … candidates will make it a better province as well. We have some great talent,” Ford said.

“I think the Liberals have a rude awakening in a little over three and a half years.”

Ford said his brother Rob Ford, who is currently undergoing treatment for a rare, soft-tissue cancer at Mount Sinai Hospital, has encouraged him to continue his political career.

“I sat at his hospital bed until 11 o’clock last night had a pretty good conversation like we always do,” he said.

“You should have been a fly in the room last night with Rob… He is always telling me to move forward in a political life and we’re going to have to see.”

Ford said his brother will undergo another round of chemo in December before likely undergoing radiation and surgery.

The pair will vacate city hall when the new mayor and council are sworn in on Dec. 2.
