An intersection in the downtown core was shut down after a delivery truck caught fire Wednesday morning.

Pictures captured by CP24 viewers showed intense flames shooting from the front of the vehicle at York and Bremner boulevards around 10:30 a.m., with thick, black smoke billowing out.

Toronto Fire Services and police responded quickly to the blaze.

Nearby residents were quick to capture the spectacle, with many posting video and pictures to social media.

“It took no time for @Toronto_Fire to get this under control! Great job guys” tweeted @LizzBits.

Const. Victor Kwong told CP24 that the fire was so intense that it melted a portion of the roadway. He said a city crew will be called in to assess and repair the damage.

According to police, the Grand and Toy truck was carrying office supplies. It’s not clear why the truck caught fire.

The driver of the truck managed to escape unharmed and no injuries have been reported.

The southbound lanes of York Street have been closed from Lake Shore Boulevard to Front Street as a result of the fire.
