Durham Regional Police are investigating the region’s third homicide this year after a woman's body was found in a burned-out garage in Pickering on Monday night.

Police say crews were called to a fire at 1164 Pebblestone Cres. shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 and found a two-car garage fully engulfed in flames.

The body was discovered after the fire was extinguished and a post-mortem examination revealed obvious signs of trauma, police said.

Police say the victim, now identified as 39-year-old Carmela Knight, was a resident of the home where she was found.

No arrests have been made and police are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity they may have seen around this address on Monday night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Jennings or Det. Taylor at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5223 or ext. 5405.
