All eastbound express lanes on Highway 401 have reopened at Neilson Road after a tractor-trailer collided with three Ministry of Transportation trucks early Friday morning.

According to Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the MTO trucks were on scene cleaning up a diesel spill from a two-vehicle accident when they were struck at Morningside Avenue shortly after 2 a.m.

The highway reopened at around 12:30 p.m.

“While the cleanup from the first crash was going on a transport truck was approaching the scene and struck a MTO blocker truck, then also clipped another tow truck and finally one of the service trucks that was there,” Schmidt told CP24 early Friday morning. “As a result the transport truck caught on fire and there is quite a mess."

The driver of the tractor-trailer and one Ministry of Transportation worker suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the accident.
