Police say an elderly female escaped serious injury after driving her vehicle into a pool in the city’s west end on Thursday morning.

According to Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko, the vehicle crashed through two fences and then into the pool at an address on Richview Road near Eglinton Avenue and Scarlett Road shortly before noon.

After a young couple heard the noise from the crash, Strapko said they rushed to the site of the accident and helped the 89-year-old woman out of the vehicle before it sank to the bottom of the pool.

Strapko said that the accident likely resulted from the woman mistakenly hitting the gas instead of the brake.

The victim was conscious and breathing at the scene and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
