Durham Regional Police are investigating after an elderly woman found a naked intruder in her Whitby home early this morning.

Police say an 87-year-old woman was sleeping in her bedroom at around 1:30 a.m. when she was woken by the sound of someone in the hallway of her home, located near Dunlop Street West and Annes Street.

The naked suspect was carrying a flashlight and began to approach the victim in her bed, police say, but when she spoke up, the intruder fled.

The police service’s K9 unit was brought in to assist in the investigation but a suspect was not found.

The intruder has been described as a white male, approximately 18 years old, five-foot-five with a thin build and short, dark hair.

Police are reminding the public to make sure all windows and doors are properly secured at night.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Const. Twiddy of Central West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1829.
