Toronto police are investigating after an election sign belonging to a city council candidate was defaced with a religious slur.

The sign, belonging to Ward 18 candidate Mohammed Uddin, was located at a property on Campbell Avenue, in the Bloor Street and Landsdowne Avenue area.

On one side, the writing reads “don’t vote,” with a profane comment about Islam scrawled on the other side.

“I am very disheartened,” Uddin said in an email to CP24 Thursday evening.

“People should be judged on their talents, not on their religion or colour.”

Officers from 11 Division went to the property to photograph the sign Thursday afternoon.

There is currently no word from police on a possible suspect.
