Halton Regional Police say they have spotted an escaped convict from the United States in Oakville and are warning the public that he is “violent and dangerous.”

The fugitive’s presence was discovered Tuesday after an SUV failed to pull over for a patrol officer at a traffic stop near Sixth Line and Upper Middle Road. The vehicle had a female driver and a male passenger and was later located in a nearby townhouse.

A police investigation revealed that the identity of the male passenger, who had by now fled, is Anthony Joseph Maiorano, 32, from Savannah, Georgia. Maiorano is supposed to be serving 20 years in prison for aggravated assault and robbery.

Toronto police helped in the hunt for Maiorano which resulted in several nearby schools being placed in a hold-and-secure state as residences in the area were searched.

Maiorano has not yet been found, and police are urging the public to call 911 and not approach him if seen. He is described as a white male, 6’1” and 195 pounds with brown eyes, short or buzzed brown hair and multiple tattoos. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with the word Facebook printed in white letters across the front.
