A former Milton daycare worker accused of possessing and making child pornography as well sexually assaulting several ‘pre-school aged’ children appeared in a Brampton court on Friday.

The suspect was originally arrested and charged on April 26 for allegedly accessing and possessing child porn and released on bail was re-arrested Thursday night and charged with eight counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference.

Peel Regional Police Const. Baljit Saini alleged the victims were pre-school age children and the assaults allegedly took place at a “facility that involved children.”

Rebecca Barrows-Vrankulji, executive director of the Milton Community Resource Centre where the accused used to work, said she and the rest of the staff of the centre were cooperating with authorities.

“We continue to focus on supporting our staff, our parents and our children and providing the services that we always have,” she told reporters on Friday.

She called the new allegations “heart-wrenching” and said the she and staff was “devastated” and “shocked.”

Several parents of children who go to the centre told CTV Toronto that the accused was great with children and well-liked.

Investigators from Halton and Peel Regional Police services, along with victim services specialists and the Children’s Aid Society say they are assisting victims and their families.

Sometime after noon on Friday, 37-year-old Steven Campbell of Brampton appeared in court.

He is scheduled to appear again on May 16 at 9 a.m.
