York Regional Police say they have charged a 58-year-old former employee of the Town of Richmond Hill who is accused of defrauding the municipality of more than $100,000 over a five-year period.

In June 2015, police said they received a report of fraud at the municipality and started an investigation.

They allege that over five years, an employee who was responsible for booking ice facilities in the municipality’s arenas had tampered with internal records and kept payments for ice time instead of submitting them to the municipality.

Police say that after an internal audit was completed, the accused employee was terminated.

On Monday, police arrested Perry Sliverman of Richmond Hill and charged him with one count of fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public official.

He is expected to appear in a Newmarket courtroom on Dec. 31.

Police urge anyone who booked ice facilities in Richmond Hill with the accused to contact them at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6612, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
