The City of Toronto is under yet another extreme cold weather alert as the mild conditions of the last few days give way to more sub-zero temperatures.

The alert was issued on Sunday morning as the temperature at Pearson International Airport at 8 a.m. dropped to – 12 C.

Though it will warm up slightly throughout the day, the cold is likely here to stay with Environment Canada predicting a high of -7 C for later this afternoon before temperatures plunge down to – 13 C overnight.

A high of – 5 C with a 30 per cent chance of afternoon flurries is predicted for Monday.

During an extreme cold weather alert, additional services are activated for the homeless including the addition of extra shelter spaces, increased street outreach and the opening of two 24-hour warming centres.

The extreme cold weather alert, which is the ninth issued for the city so far in 2015, is in effect until further notice.
