The family of a woman killed in a shooting on Wellington Street early Tuesday morning has identified the victim as 31-year-old Jelena Loncar.

A 25-year-old man was also taken to hospital with serious injuries after the shooting, which occurred in front of C Lounge at Wellington Street and Spadina Avenue at around 3 a.m.

According to EMS, the woman suffered a single gunshot wound to her torso and was without vital signs at the scene while the man suffered five or six gunshots to the torso and was conscious at the scene.

The man was known to police and homicide detectives are investigating the possibility that the woman was struck by a stray bullet.

She has been identified by family members as Jelena Loncar.

“Anything is possible and that is one of the avenues we are going to explore but the investigation is still in its infancy,” Det. Robert Choi told reporters at the scene Tuesday morning. “I don’t know what her relationship would have been to any of this. It is tough to say at this point.”

According to Choi, there were surveillance cameras in the area and police are hopeful that the suspect or suspects could have been captured on tape.

Choi also said that “some physical evidence” has been recovered and a number of witnesses have been interviewed.

Police have not yet determined whether the victims were patrons at the bar or whether or not they even knew each other.

“All we know is that they were in the vicinity of the bar and we are just trying to determine whether or not they were in attendance,” Choi said.

Police have not released any information about suspects, though initial reports from the scene suggested that a white car was seen speeding away from the area shortly after shots rang out.

Investigators have set up a web page on the Toronto Police Service's website for people to submit photos or videos relating to the incident.
