Fire has gutted a 9,500-square-foot home that was under construction in Thornhill.

A passerby noticed smoke coming from the building on Thornbank Road near Centre Street at around 2:50 a.m. and contacted the fire department.

A total of six trucks then responded to the scene, however the blaze quickly spread causing the house to collapse into the basement a short time later.

According to Vaughan Fire, crews were able to contain the blaze to the house by spraying water on nearby homes.

Firefighters remain on scene putting out hot spots.

The damage from the fire is expected to be in the millions of dollars, according to Vaughan Fire.
