A cavernous aircraft hangar at Pearson International Airport was almost filled completely with fire-suppressing foam Saturday morning.

Peel Regional Police Const. Rachel Gibbs said emergency crews were called to the hangar, located near Derry Road in Mississauga, at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday.

The white foam, which is designed to rapidly expand to fill the whole of an enclosed space in the event of a jet fuel fire, spilled onto Derry Road, police said.

Nobody was injured in the spill. Pearson airport officials tweeted later that the hangar’s fire suppression system was activated Saturday, and no commercial flights were affected by the incident.

Cleanup crews arrived to remove the foam with the help of large vacuums and hoses.
