A Toronto man who was killed in a house fire this week was the victim of a homicide and detectives believe his son, who also died, is the person who intentionally set the blaze.

Police identified the victim as 87-year-old John Aguiar and his son as 55-year-old Avelino Aguiar.

Firefighters found the men’s bodies inside the home that they shared on Jeffton Crescent, near Markham and Ellesmere roads in Scarborough, on Wednesday afternoon.

Autopsies determined both men died of smoke inhalation.

Homicide detectives have concluded their investigation and there are no other suspects, police said.

John Aguiar is Toronto’s third homicide victim of 2014.
