Firefighters are still working to stamp out hot spots after a massive two-alarm blaze tore through the upper floor of a townhome near Keele Street and Finch Avenue West.

The two-alarm fire started at a residence on Applebaum Terrance around 1:35 p.m. and then spread to a neighbouring townhouse building.

Toronto Fire said the top floor of the townhouse was fully involved when they arrived at the scene.

Footage from Chopper 24 showed large flames atop the residential building, just south of York University.

Photos taken by CP24 viewers show a plume of dark smoke visible from several kilometres away.

However firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control shortly after 2 p.m.

No one was believed to be inside the home at the time of the fire. Neighbouring homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

No injuries have been reported.

Firefighters said it was still too early to say what started the blaze.
