One person was taken to hospital with critical injuries and four others were transported with non-life threatening injuries after a collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Mississauga late Friday night.

Police say a vehicle was travelling eastbound near Hurontario Street at around 11:30 p.m. when its driver lost control, crashed through a guardrail separating the two sides of the highway and collided with two westbound vehicles.

According to reports from the scene, the driver of the eastbound vehicle was initially trapped and had to be freed by crews.

The highway was closed in both directions as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision; however it reopened by 6:30 a.m.

One Fort-Erie-bound lane does remain closed as crews repair the guardrail.

Ontario Provincial Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
