Five people were taken to hospital, including two police officers, after a vehicle slammed into a pole in the city’s west end early Saturday morning.

It happened near Old Weston Road and St. Clair Avenue at around 2:20 a.m.

Police say a cruiser was either stopped or travelling slowly in front of the vehicle at the time and was subsequently showered with debris.

Reports from the scene suggest that several pieces of the debris did penetrate the cruiser.

According to an EMS official, the two officers inside were taken to hospital with minor injuries as a result.

The three people inside the vehicle that slammed into the pole were also taken to hospital, one of whom with serious injuries and the other two with minor injuries.

Traffic Services is investigating.
