Five people are recovering after they were injured in a fire that destroyed a bed and breakfast west of Toronto late Tuesday night.

Three of the victims were listed in serious condition at the scene on the blaze on Main Street South in Campbellville, but they are expected to recover, said Milton Fire Deputy Chief Dave Pratt.

All five, including an off-duty Halton Regional Police officer and three guests, suffered smoke inhalation and/or minor burns and were transported to hospital by paramedics. They were in stable condition Wednesday morning, police said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal. A police spokesman said the fire is not considered suspicious.

Pratt said an occupant called 911 at about 11:25 p.m. to report smoke inside Marantha Log House & Flowers and additional calls were placed moments later by passersby, who reported a large structure fire.

Police arrived first and encountered a “fully-involved” fire, with flames shooting out of the roof and back of the two-storey building, Pratt told CP24.

Firefighters went into a defensive attack because it was too dangerous to enter the building.

Its five occupants made it outside, where firefighters and paramedics administered oxygen to them before they were taken to hospital.

The log house was home to the bed and breakfast and a flower shop.
