Four teenage boys and one teenage girl have been arrested in connection with a deliberately set fire that destroyed three homes in the city’s east end early Thursday morning.

According to police, the suspects broke into a home that was under renovation on Minto Street in the Queen Street and Greenwood Avenue, stole some power tools and other items and then set fire to the home at around 3 a.m.

The fire then spread to several neighbouring homes.

Two people had to be evacuated from an adjacent building but no injuries were reported.

Police say the suspects were arrested after “information came to light from the community”

The suspects, who cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are charged with arson, break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
