A former Scouts Canada leader has been arrested and charged with 17 offences in connection with the sexual assault of two children over an 11-year-period.
According to police, the man befriended a family and was often invited into their home in the Queen Street East and Jones Avenue area between 1992 and 2003.
During this time, police say the man had access to two children and sexually assaulted them on numerous occasions.
The children were between the ages of two and 12 and two and seven during the time of the alleged offences.
"He befriended the family and was invited into their home and it is at that point, where he on numerous occasions sexually assaulted the two young girls," Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu told CP24. "He was at the time a Scouts Canada leader and police believe there may be more victims. If you know any information please contact police."
Suspect was volunteer scout leader
According to a spokesperson for Scouts Canada, the suspect was a volunteer leader with the organization between September, 1991 and August, 2002 when his membership was not renewed due to “matters completely unrelated to child or youth safety,” that were disclosed during a routine police record check.
The spokesman added that Scouts Canada is “eager” to assist in the investigation but have not been contacted by police.
"We have very few details at this point in terms of the investigation because we simply have not been engaged in it. Toronto police have not contacted us in the course of their investigation," John Petitti told CP24. "We are of course eager to support the investigation any way we can."
Jeremy Nathaniel Gregg, 45, of Toronto, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with seven counts of sexual assault, seven counts of sexual exploitation and three counts of invitation to sexual touching.
