Police have charged a former Toronto elementary school teacher in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a student more than 45 years ago.

Police say that the victim, a boy, was sexually assaulted by his teacher sometime in 1970.

According to police, the suspect was employed as a teacher in Toronto from the 1970’s through the 1990’s. During that time, police also say that he served as a hockey coach.

James David Hicks, 76, of Sudbury, was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police on Oct. 21 and charged with one count of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age.

Police say that they are concerned that there may be additional victims who have not come forward.
