GUELPH, Ont. -- The City of Guelph says it is locking out about 200 unionized transit employees and suspending service as of 12:01 a.m. Monday.
Officials say the only exception is the Guelph Transit Mobility Service, which will transport passengers to pre-booked medical appointments during the labour disruption.
Major issues are wages and a union demand for additional staff.
Mayor Karen Farbridge says in a release that the decision to lock out the transit employees was not made lightly.
Council says it hopes the lockout will not affect too many riders, as ridership is lower in the summer than the fall.
