Five patients with the H1N1 flu virus have been isolated at North York General Hospital, a spokesperson with the hospital has confirmed.

Priscilla Hsu said that one unit of the hospital has been isolated as a precaution to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Working with Toronto Public Health, precautions and control measures were put in place,” a release issued by the hospital Friday night reads.

The mild adult cases were detected in inpatients who showed symptoms of nasal congestion, cough, fever and malaise, according to the release. The patients are said to be recovering.

“The circulating strain (of H1N1) is well matched to this year’s influenza vaccine and influenza vaccination continues to be the most effective method to prevent influenza infections,” the release adds.

According to the hospital, no further spread of the virus has occurred in the unit since Jan. 7.
