Halton police have issued a safety alert after receiving several reports about two door-to-door salesmen who have attempted to force their way into the homes of Georgetown residents while claiming to work for a water company.

Police say the men have been knocking on doors and insisting on entering homes to inspect the water filtration system.

In the most recent incident, police say that the men were refused entry by a homeowner and then returned to the same residence later that evening. At that point, police say the homeowner had to forcefully close the door and lock it to prevent the men from entering.

Police say it remains unclear whether the men work for the company that they claim to represent or whether that company even exists.

Police say the company the men claim to represent currently has 69 complaints on file with the Better Buisness Bureau of Central Ontario, many of which pertain to attempted forced entry into homes.
