HAMILTON, Ont. - A Hamilton man is facing an assault charge after police say a 20-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed.
Police say the woman went into a variety store in the area of King Street East and Sanford Avenue on Wednesday and told staff there that she had been stabbed.
She was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers searching for a male suspect then went to an apartment on Main Street East where they had to force entry into the building.
It's alleged that once the officers got inside they saw the suspect brandishing a butcher knife in the stairwell but they were able to talk him into putting down the knife and he was arrested.
Anthony Scott, 25, is charged with aggravated assault.
