HAMILTON, Ont. - A 17-year-old Hamilton youth is facing numerous charges after police allege he kidnapped a hotel employee and crashed a Jeep into a bank.

Hamilton police say the teen tried to rent a room at the Airport Inn at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday but was denied as he did not have a credit card.

Police say the teen returned shortly after with a handgun and forced a lone woman employee into a room and held her there against her will.

It's alleged he then forced the woman into her Jeep and threatened to shoot her unless she drove him to another location, as he did not know how to drive.

Police say the woman was then dropped off in the area north of the Lincoln Alexander Expressway and the suspect attempted to drive himself before leaving the road and crashing the Jeep into a bank in the Upper James Street and Fennell Avenue area.

Police responded to a call of an attempted robbery and charged the suspect at the scene of the crash with numerous offences including kidnapping while using a fire arm, robbery with a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
