Toronto firefighters say several semi-detached homes were evacuated for several hours in the Danforth Village area after a part of a wall collapsed during some construction work Saturday afternoon.

Capt. David Eckerman says they were called to 585 Coxwell Avenue at 2:57 p.m. for a report of a structural collapse. Some bricks of a home fell in during the underpinning of the building’s foundation. Nobody was injured by the collapse.

Several other homes on either side were evacuated. Eckerman says the building inspector has been notified.

Eckerman said a TTC bus has been called to the scene to provide shelter for evacuated residents. Residents were allowed to return to their homes before 5 p.m. Saturday.
