Human remains discovered northwest of Barrie are that of a missing 30-year-old woman, provincial police confirmed Friday afternoon.

The discovery was made in a section of the Simcoe County Forest, in the Gill Road and Hillview Crescent area, in Springwater Township.

According to provincial police, officers were notified of the discovery early Wednesday afternoon.

The discovery was made by someone walking their dog in the area, police said.

In a release Friday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police said the remains have been identified as belonging to Jaimee Lee Miller.

She was reported missing to police in Barrie on Nov. 2.

“Since then, she has been the subject of a comprehensive and detailed missing persons investigation by the Barrie Police Service,” the release said.

“Although details surrounding the cause of death cannot be released and additional testing is being conducted, this investigation is now being treated as a homicide.”
