The public is being asked to look carefully at a photo of a man who is being accused of brutally stabbing and robbing a taxi driver Tuesday night.

Toronto police released the photo Wednesday afternoon. It was taken by a surveillance camera installed in the taxi cab.

The driver, police say, was attacked after he picked up a man on the street that waved him down near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue. The man directed the driver to a laneway near Jane Street and Macdonald Avenue.

Once they were in the laneway, the driver was stabbed in the stomach. He attempted to escape the vehicle while it was still in drive but was run over when he fell to the ground.

The suspect then demanded money from the driver as he lay on the ground. He complied and the perpetrator ran away from the scene on foot.

The victim was treated by emergency officials who say he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they are looking for a man who is black, about 25 years old, five-foot-six and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket.
