Toronto police say they seized a sailboat after it was involved in a crash and its operator was charged with impaired driving within the Toronto Islands over the long weekend.
The charge was laid after the 7.6-metre (25-foot) sailboat, powered by a small outboard engine, collided with a power vessel that was docked on the west wall of Blockhouse Bay, near the Hanlan’s Point ferry dock, on Sunday, police said.
After the boats collided, the man operating the sailboat was thrown into the water. The police marine unit responded and found the man swimming to shore.
Police seized the sailboat, and it is being held for forfeiture.
In addition to impaired driving, Valetin Chygyrynskyy, 60, of Toronto is charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit.
