A major downtown intersection will be closed to traffic for four days beginning on Thursday.

The intersection of Yonge and Richmond streets will be completely closed to traffic from 6 a.m. on Thursday until 7 a.m. on Monday due to TTC track replacement work and sidewalk repairs.

During the closure, westbound traffic on Richmond Street will be forced to detour at Victoria Street. Southbound traffic on Yonge Street, meanwhile, will be forced to detour at Queen Street while northbound traffic will be forced to detour at Adelaide Street.

In order to minimize the length of the closure, the city says that construction hours have been extended to include “some 24/7 work,” though the most disruptive activity will take place before 11 p.m. each night.

The closure is part of a broader Richmond Street project that involves watermain work, road and sidewalk repairs and TTC streetcar track replacement from Church Street to York Street, the city says.

In addition to the closure of the intersection, Yonge Street will be closed from north of Queen Street to Dundas Street for a crane hoisting from Friday at 11 p.m. until Saturday at 11 p.m.

This is the fourth major intersection to be closed for TTC track replacement work in recent months.

Earlier this month, the intersection of Bay and Richmond streets was closed for five days. As well, the intersection of College and Bathurst Street was closed from June 20 to July 12 and the intersection of College Street and Lansdowne Avenue was closed from July 25 to August 8.
