A day after pulling out of the city’s mayoral race and announcing that she is leaving politics, Karen Stintz says she’s interested in becoming commissioner of the Canadian Football League.

Speaking with CP24 after her announcement Thursday, Stintz said her political career in the short term and long term is over and that she is looking to “a new chapter that is not politics.”

“I’m excited about the opportunities. There’s lots to do in this city, it’s a great city,” Stintz said. “I think there’s great opportunities in the business community and the sports community. There are all kinds of things going on that I find exciting.”

She also said she would look to do something where she can advance the city.

Stintz confirmed her interest in the CFL job to CP24 Friday.

On Wednesday current CFL commissioner Mark Cohon announced that he would leave the post when his current contract expires in 2015. Cohon has served in the role for eight seasons. Before that he served as head of corporate development at Major League Baseball and head of international marketing at the NBA.

Stintz has been a city councillor for 11 years and is also an avid football fan.
