When Norm Kelly hears Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling,’ he can only do one thing.

The Ward 40 councillor, 74, channeled his love for Drake to another level Wednesday, paying tribute to the Toronto rapper by emulating his moves from the hit video for ‘Hotline Bling.’

Swaying and shuffling to the beats in a box similar to the one featured in the popular video, Kelly did his best interpretation of Drake’s dance moves at the Air Canada Centre live on CP24 while mouthing occasional lyrics.

“I made sure I reviewed the video a couple of times to at least try and capture the essence of his dance style,” a still-grooving Kelly told CP24’s Lindsey Deluce after showing off his moves.

While Kelly has championed Drake before, his latest tribute comes as the Raptors get ready for ‘Drake Night’ at the ACC, a nod to the fact that the music star also serves as the team’s ‘global ambassador.’

Speaking to his enthusiasm, Kelly said the catchy song is “infectious” and said that’s why Drake is “the number one entertainer today.”

“That’s what Drake brings to a lot of people – just a sense of fun,” he said.

He also mused about the exact meaning of ‘hotline bling.’

“It’s a call, it’s a phone call. That’s my understanding,” Kelly said.

While Kelly was the first to show off his Drake moves, others will have a chance to do so tonight inside the colour-changing box set up outside Gate One as the Raptors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Fans are also expected to take home some co-branded Raptors-Drake swag as part of ‘Drake Night.’

Kelly said he’ll be on-hand for the game and predicted the Raptors will “stomp” the Cavaliers. He also encouraged others to check out the Drake display as well.

“It’s a blast,” Kelly said. “You have a chance to come here and take a look at it, dance it, just enjoy it in addition to the victory you’ll see here as well.”

Drake and Raptors Manager Masai Ujiri are expected to speak with reporters at the ACC sometime before this evening’s game as well.
