Commuters are being asked to avoid a stretch of Avenue Road that is partially closed for three months due to a major construction project.

Until Sept. 15, road and sidewalk work is shutting down most of Avenue Road between Bloor Street and Lawrence Avenue West.

According to the city, at least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction during the summer construction project, but there will be traffic restrictions at times and motorists should expect delays.

Motorists can use Yonge Street, Spadina Road and Bathurst Street as alternate north-south routes.

Pedestrians will have access to buildings on Avenue Road during the $6-million project.

This project is the final part of the overall construction work on Avenue Road, which included water main replacement, the city said in a news release.

Road and sidewalk repairs will also take place on these streets:

  • Lonsdale Road, from Avenue Road to Oriole Parkway
  • Oriole Parkway, from Lonsdale Road to Chaplin Crescent
  • Chaplin Crescent, from Oriole Parkway to Avenue Road
