A man has died after being struck while riding his bicycle near Woodbine Racetrack late Tuesday afternoon.

It happened on Highway 27 at Vice Regent Boulevard shortly before 6 p.m.

The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified, police said.

According to investigators, it appears the cyclist was struck while crossing the highway. Police added that two vehicles were involved.

The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene, police said. Both were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed southbound at Rexdale Boulevard and northbound at Bethridge Road as police investigated. It has since reopened.
