A male driver was killed and a passenger rushed to hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in smashed into a light pole in Brampton early Saturday.

Police say shortly before 3 a.m., a 25-year-old Brampton man was driving a black Honda Civic down Cottrelle Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle near Thorndale Road, crashing into a concrete pole. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 20-year-old male passenger was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

In a news release issued Saturday night, Peel Police said they are investigating the involvement of a second vehicle, which did not remain at the scene of the accident.  Police said they are also working to identify the second vehicle and its driver.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact police at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3710.
