One male has been rushed to hospital following a shooting in Brampton.

It happened near Steele Avenue and Kennedy Road at around noon Sunday.

Paramedics say a male victim sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a trauma centre in serious but stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a black male who is approximately six-foot-two and was seen wearing baggy pants and a black hoodie.

Investigators say the suspect fled the area on foot toward Chamney Court.

Residents in the area have been advised not to approach the man if spotted but to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Police have set up a perimeter and are asking that people avoid the area if possible.
