Toronto paramedics say a male was rushed to hospital trauma centre after he was shot while sitting in a car passing through the Oakridge area of Scarborough on Sunday afternoon.

Toronto police say they were called to the area of Danforth Avenue and Main Street at 4:28 p.m. for a report of shots fired into a moving car.

Police said the victim was in a moving car with a passenger when the vehicle was struck multiple times.

A police staff sergeant said the man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and is in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Witnesses say the vehicle was reportedly fired upon in the area of Denton and Byng avenues before the driver headed to the Main Street and Danforth Avenue area where he pulled over.

No suspect information was immediately available. A CP24 reporter at the scene counted seven bullet holes in a white Nissan sedan being examined by police detectives.

Danforth Avenue is closed in both directions at Main Street to allow for an investigation.
