Peel Regional Police have charged a 36-year-old man after a female was found dead in a Brampton home early Sunday morning.

According to Const. Fiona Thivierge, officers responded to a disturbance call made from a residence on Nanwood Drive in the vicinity of Main Street and Steeles Avenue at around 12:35 a.m. and located the deceased female party inside the home.

The male party was then taken into custody for “investigative purposes,” according to Thivierge. A second party who was inside the residence at the time is also being interviewed by police.

Police have not yet identified the victim.

“A homicide has a lot of T’s to cross and I’s to dot and Peel Police Homicide Bureau want to make sure they don’t miss anything so they will be taking their time in conducting interviews, processing the scene and dealing with the coroner’s office,” Thivierge told CP24 at the scene Sunday morning.

Police initially classified the death as suspicious; however it has since been deemed a homicide.

Though a cause of death has not yet been determined, police say the victim was found suffering from obvious signs of trauma.

Homicide detectives are on scene currently and officers with the Peel Regional Police Forensic Identification Services are in the process of obtaining a warrant so they can conduct a search inside the home.

Police say Richard Pereira, 36, of Brampton, has been charged with second-degree murder. He made a court appearance Sunday.

Anyone with information is being encouraged to contact police.

“Anybody who may have seen or heard anything last night that was a little bit unusual or even if it isn’t unusual but is just something they noticed, we would ask them to contact our homicide bureau,” Thivierge said.
