WHITBY, Ont. -- A 32-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly threatening an off-duty police officer.

Durham Regional Police say the officer was stopped at a red light in Whitby, Ont., on Wednesday afternoon when a pickup truck allegedly made a left turn through the intersection without stopping for the red light.

They say a car had to skid to a stop to avoid a collision.

Investigators say the off-duty officer followed the driver to a nearby golf course and identified himself, after which the driver allegedly threatened the officer.

When other officers arrived, police allege the driver fled and was arrested at his home on Thursday.

A Whitby man is charged with dangerous driving, uttering threats and failing to comply with a probation order.
