A 45-year-old Uxbridge man has been charged after he allegedly punched a striking teacher outside a Pickering high school last week.

Police say the suspect was in his vehicle waiting to cross the picket line outside Pine Ridge Secondary School at around 2 p.m. on Thursday when he observed a picketer spit onto his car.

The suspect then allegedly stepped out of the car and punched the picketer in the face before returning to his vehicle and entering the parking lot, police say.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital.

Englhieberth Smith is charged with assault causing bodily harm in connection with the incident.
